Friendship as Social Capital: Jewish Identity and Economic Opportunity
Provisional title · Expected 2027Advisors: Dr. Toni Weiss and Dr. Ilana Horwitz
My honors thesis examines friendship as a form of social capital. The project compares the college friendship networks of Jewish and non-Jewish students, including their composition and the information, resources, and professional opportunities those relationships provide, in order to understand how identity shapes access to economic opportunity.
The project lies at the intersection of economics and Jewish Studies. It brings economic research on social networks and mobility into conversation with Jewish Studies scholarship, using network analysis to examine how these patterns develop over the course of college.
